All males from the breeding of this form produce "short-lappet" forms, indicating that it is a distinct population, different from the A. sp. "Breitbinden"

Imported to Japan and sold as "Apistogramma brevis" (mis-ID) in 2003
Distribution and habitat
So far, only known from the Río Atabapo drainage of Colombia. Might also occur in the Río Vaupés drainage (Colombia).
